I was, probably, 13 when I saw their gothic and creepy music video for "The Perfect Drug".
Then, I heard the heavily censored "Closer" which became the first of their many songs (and music videos) that became my favorite.
Way before I have some understanding of what Industrial Rock means, I have always envisioned their music as something like that of abandoned factory buildings in Germany, full of steels, tubes, smokes, rusts and peeling teal-painted walls.
Nine Inch Nails.

I was grateful to have scored a better seat than that of last year's, although I was initially aiming to purchase a lower box ticket, which got sold-out right about the time I have enough funds. So I settled for the next better spot, front row of Upper Box A.

Opening act by Pupil, a band led by another Pinoy rock god, Ely Buendia, who was wearing a yellow ribbon tied on his right arm, with lead guitarist Yani Yuzon dedicating the band's performance to President Cory Aquino.

The anticipating crowd...

Blinking blinding lights. Pounding of the floor that echoed through my chest. Electricity and noise and clouds of smoke combined. It was the most explosive live performance I have ever seen so far. Everything I have imagined on a mind-blowing rock concert.
August 5, 2009. 9PM. Araneta Coliseum. Wave Goodbye Tour.

Feeling the silent implosion that emanated through every rage and anger and passion of the music that filled the dome. Surreal. It was like a beautiful haunting nightmare, that ended so abruptly. Not realizing that they performed "Hurt" as their finale. What a way to say goodbye.
"everyone I know
goes away in the end..."
goes away in the end..."

Hands down to the genius and a god that is Trent Reznor.
